Advent Day 20: John 10:11

In this episode, Jill and Grizz dive into the idea that Jesus is the good shepherd. We strive to imitate Christ by making our lives about other people and serving others sacrificially as Christ did for us.  


  • What are some cool/simple ideas of ways to serve others in this season?
  • What do you know about sheep?
  • What do you know about shepherds?
  • How are you sacrificially laying your life down for your friends?

Noteworthy Quotes:

  • Service isn’t always something we naturally WANT to do, sometimes it’s a sacrifice
  • Sheep are one of the more scared animals
  • Shepherds use their staffs to both ward off predators and guide their sheep because sheep will often put themselves in harms way
  • In this scripture, Jesus is claiming to be God by equating himself with the ultimate shepherd (God)
  • In the Old Testament, David was also a shepherd who became a king

The Basics of the Episode:

  • Jesus is the good shepherd (this is one of the 7 “I am” statements that are written in the gospel about who Jesus is)
  • Shepherds are always with their sheep! In the same way, Jesus is always with us!
  • God is going to be the shepherd of his people
  • Ultimately, Jesus laid down his life for us by dying on the cross for us, the ultimate act of service
