Advent Day 21: John 8:58

Posted in: Show Notes

In this episode, Autumn and Annabel unpack John 8:51-58. They discuss a passage in scripture where Jesus points directly to his divinity! We can be fully confident that Jesus will never change, for his character is steadfast.

Questions:

  • What is the significance of Jesus saying “I am” in this passage?
  • What are God’s characteristics?
  • What are the character qualities of God that you are most thankful for?
  • What are the characteristics of God that are being revealed to you in the scripture you are reading?

Noteworthy Quotes:

  • If Jesus had only wanted to claim in this exchange that he was around when Abram was, he would have said “I was”
  • We are always looking for someone that we can put our trust and hope in, but everyone we do that to on earth will fail us because their character is ever changing! (Even your friends, roommates, spouses)

The Basics of the Episode:

  • When Jesus says “I am”, he is declaring himself the Yahweh, he is claiming himself as God
  • Jesus is completely faithful and steadfast and there is nothing that can change that!
  • You don’t have to wonder which version of God you will get when you interact with him, for his character is never changing!
