Advent Day 26: Matthew 26:1-12

In this episode, Grizz and Michelle talk about even more fulfillment of prophecies that Jesus is the King! They talk about how Herod and the Wise men were not people who knew God intimately but they each acknowledged Christ’s divinity in their own ways!

Noteworthy Quotes:

  • The Wise Men are also referred to as the magi, but they are NOT actually Kings
  • The magi were also expecting a king to come and rise up over the Israelites (even though it wasn’t in the same vein as the Jews)
  • The wise men follow the stars to Bethlehem and they find Jesus and realize he is the one true king
  • The wise men offer gold (royalty), frankincense (divinity), and myrrh (suffering)
  • Neither were Herod or the wise men Jews or people who worshipped the one true God

The Basics of the Episode:

  • The two main people this text is talking about is: 1. King Herod, and 2. The Wise Men
  • The Wise Men were magicians, astrologists, and scientists, they were not Jews!
  • Herod was made king by the Romans and he was afraid of the real kingship that would be coming to kick off his throne
  • Herod lies to the wise men and tells them that he wants to worship the coming king but in reality Herod wants to kill him!
  • Jesus is the true king, he has authority over his kingdom! 
  • The gospel is for anyone who believes in him
