Episode 24 – Doers of the Word Intro

Posted in: Show Notes

In this episode we are kicking off our new series about being doers of the Word!  All over Scripture, we are encouraged to be people who don’t just read the Word, but to be people who then put it into action!  This series will be broken into fifteen episodes where we will look at what Scripture says in regards to topics such as our words, relationships with others, idolatry, and so much more!

  • Today, we will be looking at the book of James as we kick off this series of being doers of the Word.
  • James, the writer of the book of James, was the biological son of Mary and Jesus, making him Jesus’s brother.
  • James became a believer in Jesus as the Son of God when he saw Jesus resurrected from the dead.  James was later martyred for his faith.
  • Scripture references on being doers of God’s Word:
    • John 15: 1-8
      • To bear fruit means you are putting on righteousness and obedience and are practicing what Jesus says.
    • Galatians 5: 16-26
    • 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8
    • 1 John 3: 4-10
    • 1 John 5: 1-3
    • 1 John 2: 15-17
    • 1 Peter 1: 13-16
    • 1 Peter 1: 22-23
    • Romans 12: 1-2
      • Our minds are renewed by the Word of God.  If you want to know what God’s will is, it is putting into practice the Word of God.
      • God didn’t create boundaries and parameters to burden us, but out of His love.
    • Romans 8: 1-11
      • We have direct access to Christ when the Spirit of God lives in us!  The Spirit is there to help you live out the will of God in your life.
    • James 1: 19-25
      • How does the implanted Word save our soul?  It is only by believing in Jesus that our souls our saved.  His “implanted word” is His truth, a.k.a. The Gospel.
        • Deuteronomy 30: 14
      • “The law of liberty” is what was fulfilled in Christ.
      • If we were to look in the mirror and see something wrong with ourselves, we wouldn’t walk away and immediately forget about it.  In the same way, when we read the Word of God, we should want to change the sin that we see in ourselves.
      • Isaiah 26: 3 says, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

We hope this episode is encouraging to you, ladies, and that by digging into God’s Word, you desire more of these things in your life! Stay tuned as we start discussing specific topics found directly in our Bibles.  Let us know through our social media platforms how we can be encouraging you in these truths this week!
